Blizzcon 2016 is less than 3 weeks away. Every year Blizzard has capped off their convention with a musical act. In 2005 they had The Offspring play. In 2007 and 2008 they had Video Games Live. In 2009 they introduced a heavy metal icon, Ozzy Osbourne. Then from 2010 to 2012 they returned to more of the alternative rock scene with Tenacious D, Foo Fighters then Blink 182. 2014 we saw Metallica and in 2015, Linkin Park closed out the event. The burning question on everyone’s mind this year is who could it be?

There are multiple theories out there. One theory is Deadmau5, he has stated multiple times that he loves Blizzard games, of course the most notable news was when he lost his Diablo 3 Hardcore character. He is a fan favorite for sure, but looking back at the lineup for past Blizzcon artists, one can only wonder if maybe his style of music doesn’t suit the old guard at Blizzard, because lets be honest they seem to like rock in some form or another, the only notable exception is Video Games Live.
Another favorite theory has been Bush, you remember them with their hit 90s song “Everything Zen”, Gavin Rossdale had teens back then eating out of his hand! Bush would fit the mold of what Blizzard likes to pick. Another reason going for them would be they just put out some new tracks and are touring again. However thats the problem, they have a concert scheduled on Saturday November 5th in Los Angeles, now while this could be a red herring to throw us off the track, they are selling tickets for the Wiltern venue they are playing in, so you can cross Gavin and his merry band off the list of possibilities.

Now comes my theory, one I proposed to my friend Serephita on Facebook on September 30th. My thought is it will be Green Day. Lets look at what they have going for them. First off they were a popular 90s band, and continue to be relevant, including releasing a new album, Revolution Radio. They are currently on tour in the US which ends a week before Blizzcon, and their European tour doesn’t kick off until January. They are also a California band which means after their last show in Missouri, they will in theory come home to California putting them close to Blizzcon. This all plays out in my mind to perfect timing, so Green Day is where I am putting my money as far as bands go.
What do you think? Let us hear your thoughts here and on social media of who you think the band will be!
